Garrett was in a damned good mood. While he loved his son more than he'd thought it was possible, it was incredibly good to be out with his wife and a decent chunk of his people. Adding in the sheer ridiculousness of the place, how happy Janos and Jesse looked as more and more people showed, and it was guaranteed that he was going to stay in a good mood.

Hanging out in one of the back corners where they could see the room at large, he was seated, leaning back in his chair, balancing on the hind two legs as he watched the goings on.

Snorting, he lifted a boot-clad foot and nudged his wife, interrupting the conversation she was having with Katie about - well, he didn't know what they were talking about. He'd tuned them out five minutes ago. "Don't look now, but Miri's suctioned herself onto Josh."

Katie whipped her head around and grinned evilly. "Really hope no one tells him that she's Shiloh's too fast," she said, more used to speaking without a voice now, but having to push the limit so Ash could hear her.

For once, Ash was wearing a Western dress and shoes, no real Tamil touches except her jewelry. She'd hit her pre-baby weight the week before and was celebrating. Besides, she liked the way Garrett had looked at her when she'd come downstairs in it this evening, which was its own kind of celebration, at least the potential for one.

She looked over at Josh and Miri, the way the fae seemed to be climbing up piggyback onto Josh, and laughed. "Oh man, I hope so too. That boy needs to loosen up and have some fun, and I have perfect faith in Miri's ability to loosen up pretty much anybody or anything. She gets Jared Kirby being happy instead of affable-yet-sardonically-amused, at least for brief periods." Ash was aware that many-to-most people found Garrett intimidating, which she just couldn't. But Jared kinda scared her.

Garrett, who was dressed down compared to his wife, in a white button down and jeans, red and brown cowboy boots tucked beneath them, snorted. "He needs to get laid."

Katie, who over the course of the past couple weeks had started counting Garrett as much as family as she did Ash, narrowed her eyes at him. She'd gone full on rock star tonight, heavy makeup and kick ass hair and a neat dress, all worn like armor around her, because it was a persona, not her, and so she was safe from whatever people may say about her. It made sense in her head.

"He is not allowed to sleep with her," she informed the King. She was well aware that Garrett and Shiloh were friends of a sort, as much as the two could be, and so he probably liked Miri. But Miri was a whore, and Katie was not having her brother going home with Feymydia or whatever. It was possible that Katie was something of a prude.

"How you gonna stop him?" Garrett asked curiously, not even trying to pretend he wasn't hellaciously amused.

"Would I get in trouble if I ate her?"

"One, darlin'," Garrett countered, letting the drawl come in nice and thick just because, "She would turn you inside out before you could grow fangs. Two? Yes. You would. You can keep glaring if you like, though. I think it's a better idea to go mingle yourself."

Katie deflated a bit, but not as much as she would have even a week earlier. "No thank you."

Ash leaned back against Garrett's side, settling herself in even as she said, "He's right, you ought to go chat with some people you don't live in the same house with. Don't make me start setting you up on play dates with rats."

"Also, out of curiosity, do you not think he needs to get laid? Because he's darling and all, but wound way too tight. If he's going to stay here, he needs to loosen up or he'll shatter. And Miss Manic Pixie seems like as good a place to start as any."

"There are other things besides sex that can loosen people up," Katie said primly.

"Not one of them is as much fun," Garrett said dryly. "And I have feeling she'd loosen him up better than most."

"Ew, Garrett," Katie whined, sort of, but also said, "Shiloh'd eat him, and I like him all non digested." A huff. "Fine. But I repeat the ew." Also, knowing they were right but not wanting to leave the safety net that was their company, she gave another huff. "Fine," she said again, "I'll go hit Janos up for more chocolate."

Plus, she wanted to check on him.

Once she was up and out of ear shot, Garrett gave Ash a dry look. "Our little bird is spreading her wings."

She grinned at him and gave a little sniff. "All grown up at last." She laughed and reached over to pet at Garrett's thigh, because how fun was that? "It won't be long before she stops needing us at all. At least, until she's ready to move out and start thinking about what to do with her life. And then we'll only have Jamie, Janos, Jesse, and about fifteen others to worry about night and day. It'll be like a vacation!" As if she'd have it any other way.

Looking around the room, she grinned and nudged Garrett's knee, pointing to the entrance of the pool room where Van and Kari were apparently debating whether or not to go in. "Who's going to win? Actually, I take that back, Kari is. Who's arguing which side?"

He grinned about her prediction of who would win (because it was right and that just funny as far as Garrett was concerned), and said, "Van doesn't want to go in. He's old fashioned and only watches porno in the privacy of his own home." A beat. "And he's afraid she'll want to have sex right there in the middle of the room."

She laughed and shook her head. "Sadly true. I don't think she will, though. Maybe the parking lot, but she tries to be more ladylike than going for it right there on the pool table."

Jesse was heading toward them, Janos had gotten hung up talking to someone, and Ash looked up and smiled warmly at the boy she thought of as one of Hers. "Hey, you. Good crowd tonight, people seem really into it."

Jess stopped by the table and grinned broadly at both Ash and Garrett, making him look his age for once. "Yeah, I kinda can't believe it."

Garrett couldn't help chuckling. From Jess, that was practically a soliloquy. "That's because you buy into that whole bit about rats not having a sense of humor."

Jess blinked. "I'm a rat, Sir."

"Yeah, that's my point, kid."

Jess actually looked sheepish. "Oh, right. Yeah. Working on it, Sir." To Ash, he asked, "How come you're hiding back here?"

"We'll do the rounds soon, just wanted to give people a chance to unwind without being on 'oh crap the King's here' good behavior." Ash stood up long enough to kiss Jesse's cheek, then Janos's as he rolled up. The hyena looked older now, at least in Ash's eyes, though he wore it fairly well. There was something in him now that she understood but didn't know how to describe. A lack of the anxiety that had always ridden him before, even when he was wearing his Perfect Butler face. A surety because now he knew, truly believed, that he was Clan and always would be.

Janos was wearing a dark blue sweater and jeans, he'd taken to wearing colors when he wasn't working directly for Garrett as a sort of cue for others which of his metaphoric hats was on at any given time. He smiled at his King, gave the head bob that was his version of offering submission (like it even needed to be offered). "I think they like it. Though I'm going to have to have the pool tables professionally cleaned. I should have predicted it, really."

Jess was in such a good mood that he actually gave Ash a little hug in return, shrugging at Garrett's raised brows. Janos's big night was a hit and that was a win on a level Jess hadn't really understood that they needed.

"Yes, you should have," Garrett said blandly, planning to stay well out of that room for the night. Oh, there was going to be sex with his wife, but not in there. Quite possibly in the Rover on the way home, though. That dress sort of begged for it.

Jess grinned, again. It was like it was a thing, all of a sudden. "I keep telling him he just needs to add a 'tax' to anyone's drinks that goes in there."

Janos laughed and shrugged, "With the number of trays of drinks going in there, I'll probably make it up on bulk." Besides, people were enjoying themselves, that's worth some ruined felt. This was exactly what he wanted for this night, it set a tone of relaxed camaraderie that was the entire reason he'd decided to open a pub, to give that to his Clan.

He turned the chair slightly, rotating on the big wheels with a fair degree of skill. "We may run out of cinnamon schnapps. Eight cases of it, and we're more than halfway through already. I thought people would stop drinking them after the first few."

Ash grinned at him. "They're daring one another to keep tossing them back. You underestimated the competition aspect."

"Ah," a sage nod, Janos's hand stretched out to touch the side-seam of Jesse's jeans in an unconscious gesture he'd picked up lately. "Silly me."

Jess dropped his hand automatically, pinkie finger running against Janos's hand almost idly. "Yeah," he said, grinning down at his boyfriend, "You underestimated."

Funny because Jess had said the eight cases was overkill.

"Somehow I doubt that was the case," Garrett said dryly. Janos never got anything wrong. Ever. At least not as far as he had ever seen.

"There's a backup plan," Janos said mildly, which set Ash off laughing because of course there was.

She shook her head, smiling. "Don't you ever get tired of being right?"

Janos cocked his head and looked up at her, eyes wide. "No. Not ever."

"He gets tired other ways," Jess said happily.

"And on that note...," Garrett said and Jess actually laughed.

"Come on, we'll send them more drinks." On the small silver trays picked out just for the King.

He led Janos away, certain they'd be back in a while.

"You see the happy on those two?" Garrett asked, "Know better than to think it'll last, but damn it's good to see."
